While Morguson County’s Judges strongly encourage cooperation and communication in families in most cases, if physical, emotional, verbal, or other violence or abuse has occurred, safety must be a priority.
Many of the cooperation and communication strategies useful in other families may not fit in these circumstances.
If you or a child of yours has suffered violence or abuse, we encourage you to consider four things.
1) Make sure your immediate circumstances are safe. Please contact any of the following for confidential help.
- A local attorney or counselor experienced in cases of abuse.
- The prosecutor’s office.
- The YWCA Women’s Shelter.
- The Morguson County Mental Health Center
2) Use our courts if necessary.
3) Get ongoing counseling from someone experienced in cases of abuse.
4) Remember the impact on your children from experiencing or seeing abuse.
If you or a child of yours has suffered violence or abuse, please see Judge Elizabeth Stephenson’s short video addresses on:
- Violence or Abuse in Family Cases and
- Children’s Garden Class for Parents in Cases with Issues of Violence or Abuse.
